How Your Marine Corps Fitness Score Is Calculated
The Marine Corps tests fitness twice a year. The Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is held from 1 January to 30 June, and the Combat Fitness Test (CFT) is held in the second half of the year. Each event earns points from a published chart, and the points add up to your score.
What the PFT and CFT Measure
The PFT has three parts: pull-ups or push-ups, a plank, and a 3-mile run.¹ ² The CFT tests how you move under load. It has three events: an 880-yard Movement to Contact run, a two-minute Ammo Can Lift with a 30-pound can, and a Maneuver Under Fire course.⁴ Neither test is a medical check. They measure strength, endurance, and speed on the day.
The Formula
The score is a sum. Each event is read from the scoring chart for your test, your age group, and your sex.
Total score = event 1 points + event 2 points + event 3 points
The Marine Corps sets the charts in Marine Corps Order 6100.13A and its changes.³ The top PFT total is 300 points (100 per event). The combat arms minimum of 210 points is 70 percent of that.¹
How This Calculator Computes Your Result
Pick PFT or CFT, your sex, and your age group. Enter your pull-up or push-up count, plank time, and run time for the PFT. Or enter your three event results for the CFT. Times are entered as minutes and seconds and read in whole seconds. The tool reads each result from the chart exactly as printed, with no rounding up and no curve. It then shows points for each event, your total, and your class.
If you are a Marine in a combat arms job, there is a switch for that. Since 1 January 2026, combat arms Marines are scored on male age-normed standards, whatever their sex, and must reach at least 210 points on the PFT.¹ ²
What Your Result Means
Your total puts you in a class. Class I is the highest, and Class III is the lowest passing class. A result below the minimum is a failing score. The class cutoffs and the passing minimum come from the current order.³ Combat arms Marines must score at least 210 points on the PFT, which is 70 percent of the 300 possible.¹ ²
The official score is the one your scorer records. Use this tool to plan, not to replace that record.
What Changed for 2026
On 18 December 2025 the Marine Corps announced new fitness rules that took effect on 1 January 2026.¹ ² Combat arms Marines now follow one set of standards based on male age norms, with a 210 point minimum on the PFT. Marines in other jobs keep the sex- and age-based standards they had before. The same announcement says body composition will move from height, weight, and tape tests to a waist-to-height ratio, but this calculator does not measure that.¹ ²
Common Mistakes
Many Marines enter a run time in minutes only. Enter minutes and seconds, such as 24:15. Another common mistake is picking the wrong age group. Charts are set by age group, and moving up a group changes the points for the same result.
A Note on Accuracy
This is an educational estimate. Scoring charts and rules are changed by Marine Corps messages, and your scorer's recorded result is the official score. Check the date shown on your result against the current order before you rely on it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good PFT score?
A higher class is better, and Class I is the top class. Combat arms Marines need at least 210 points out of 300.¹ ²
How is the Marine Corps PFT scored?
You earn points on each of three events, and the points are added together for a total out of 300.¹ ³
What are the three CFT events?
They are the Movement to Contact run, the Ammo Can Lift, and Maneuver Under Fire.⁴
Is this USMC PFT calculator accurate?
It follows the scoring charts in the Marine Corps order, so it should match the chart for the same inputs. Your scorer's recorded result is the official one.³
